When the Breakers go Back on Full Time (Song)

from Settle Out Of Court by John & Maggie Carty with Shane McGowan & Dónal Lunny

about

Maggie first heard this sung by Boyle guitarist and singer, Francis Gaffney. It was recorded by the great Frank Harte, shortly before his death, with Dónal Lunny and released on their album 'There's Gangs of Them Digging'. This song is set in the 1930s Great Depression in Pennsylvania during the coal strikes, and is sung from a woman's point of view, about how she will spend her husband's wages when he goes back to work. It's all about overcoming hard times and having hope for the future.
