Jamesy Gannon's Waltz / Michael Dwyer's

from Hiding Daylight in Dark Corners by James Carty

about

Reg Hall put together a collection of music from Sligo fiddle player Michael Gorman for Topic Records entitled The Sligo Champion and this waltz was included on it. Gorman credits it to Jamesy Gannon (1844-1934) of Crimlin, Chafpool, Co. Sligo. Gannon taught a number of the local fiddlers of that generation, including Gorman. The reel was composed by whistle player and composer Michael Dwyer from the famous Dwyer family from Castletownbere in Co. Cork. It was played regularly around London in the 1960s and was christened by Bobby Casey as The Hump in the Quilt! I would associate this version with Danny Meehan.
