Hiding Daylight in Dark Corners / Bill Hoare's

from Hiding Daylight in Dark Corners by James Carty

/

about

My father heard the first reel played by a highland piper on a tape given to him by one of my mother’s relations. We had no name for it so have christened it after a saying of a neighbour at home Christy Healy, who passed away whilst I was recording the album. Christy was a real character, full of sharp wit and devilment and had some great, sometimes nonsensical sayings. He was a regular visitor to our home and “Hiding daylight in Dark Corners” was always his reply if you asked him what he had been doing all day. The second reel was collected by Billy McComiskey from box player Bill Hoare from near Athlone. Brian McGrath also recorded this tune on his solo album Pure Banjo.
